[C320-list] Dry Aqualift Muffler

I have recently taken my aqualift muffler out as it was leaking water.
I believe the previous owner did not drain it before the New England
winter so it developed some cracks and when I cranked the engine to
2500 RPMs the exhaust pressure was forcing water out and into the
bilge.

The operation of the muffler box is fairly simple. Sea or raw water
is introduced to the exhaust at the rear end of the manifold just
before the muffler, so there is a large amount of "dirty" exhaust
mixed with sea water entering the muffler box under quite a bit of
pressure. Although the outlet comes off the top of the muffler box
that exit pipe extends down close to the bottom of the box, so the
exhaust pressure very quickly forces the water out of the box up
through the pipe along with the gases. Unless you are excessively
cranking the engine without starting there should only be a small
amount of water in the box.

Has anyone here used a different muffler box such as Vetus? Is there
one that fits? My C320 is a 1994 with a Perkins M30, 29hp engine.

I removed the water lift on my boat as I thought it was leaking around
the screws which attach it to the platform. It wasn't leaking but
rather was a pesky coolant hose which I later discovered. When I took
the muffler out there was very little water in it. While I had the
muffler out I serviced the drain cock and it now opens and closes
easily. I rarely get more than a half cup out of it. I too would like
to see how these fibreglas lift pots are made?CheersJohnM1999 #574

I'm looking at adding a Quantum Sails "Sail Pack" (not sure of their
name for it) to the boom, and a Strong Track/slide system to the mast
in order to be better able to raise/lower the main for single handling
the boat.? I have talked to a few people in the Long Beach marinas,
but I am wondering if any of you have added either or both to your
320, and how do you like them. I would appreciate any feedback on
this.? Thanks much.

When we got our new mainsail from Scott Allen (Formerly UK Sails) in
Annapolis he suggested and we bought a three line dutchman system and
that works perfectly.
He also suggested the Tides slide, which we did not buy, but it is a
wonderful system that will never hang up on the gate9There is none)

I did purchase the Strong system about 10 years ago. It made little
difference in hoisting the sail. I believe that the problem that
remains is that the main halyard does not have a straight line from
the base of the mast through the rope clutch and back to the winch.
There is too much friction still as the halyard enters the side of the
rope clutch versus coming through in a straight line. But if one
hoists the main from the mast, a child can do so as my grandson at 8
years old was able to do so without needing the winch. He cannot get
the main up at all from the cockpit though. I would not recommend
purchasing this system for a C320 and not because the system is at
fault but rather the halyard does not have a fair lead back to the
cockpit. That said, it you or crew are OK going up on deck to hoist
the main, go for it!

On my #406 1997 when hauling up the main gets harder, I spray some
SailKote lubricant on the lugs from each side and as far up the luff
track as I can reach. It make a wonderful difference. We typically
raise the main about 40 times a season here in the Great (for sailing)
Lakes and I use that SailKote about 3 time per season.

We do this also. In addition, we thoroughly wet a cotton ball with
Sailkote, stuff it in the mast slot above the headboard slide and
raise the main once a year to clean the slot.

We purchased a "Winchrite", electric winch handle. It worked great
and took all the work out of raising the main. Santa Barbara #914.
