Once again, I stand corrected. Right document. Wrong conclusion. Stick with
Jeff's advice.

Hello,

Check out the pictures in this Photo Album from the Catalina 320 Website.

http://www.catalina320.com/mediagallery/album.php?aid=98

It looks like you don't have the right piece in the mast.

Also check out Page 6 from the Charleston Spars Mast Handbook: I think it
shows that missing part.

http://www.catalina320.com/filemgmt_data/files/Catalina320_Standard_Mast.pdf

Also, a few things to consider...

1) Since hull 12 is quite ...mature... I would suggest that you replace the
3 masthead heaves now, even if they look ok. There will never be an easier
time to do it, they're inexpensive and if they crack under load, you could
damage or lose halyards at an inopportune time, which by definition, is the
only time it will ever happen. :)

2) Now that the mast is down, you might contact Charleston Spars about where
to add a small inspection port down near the base of the mast. It'll be
very helpful for diagnosing electrical problems, retrieving halyards,
running additional wiring, and checking for a clogged mast drain (which has
been known to cause water to back and run down the compression post into the
bilge. Can't tell you how many times I wished I had done that.

3) While the mast is down, consider doing some maintenance on the mast step.
Here's what I would do (did last time our mast was down):
If there's any sign of rust near the nuts surrounding the mast
compression post in the main cabin"
	* From inside the cabin, remove the nuts in the ceiling around the
mast compression post.
	* remove those screw head bolts holding the aluminum plate to the
mast step/compression post assembly.
                * lift off the aluminum top plate of the mast step, clean
out all the drainage channels/holes so that water can't back up inside the
mast.
                * put the plate back on drop the screw head bolts back in
leaving about an inch or so still exposed, fill the bolt hole with a good
marine sealant (NOT 4200 or 5200!!), just a good marine silicone or
polysulfide. Push the screws down most of the way, leaving about a dime's
thickness still left to out. Let the sealant cure like this. Then tighten
the nuts from the inside in a day or so, while someone outside ensures that
the screws don't turn at all. Should be well sealed now.

Check the studs and nuts that hold the turning blocks. Unscrew
/inspect them, apply some TefGel and thread them back in all the way, then
UNSCREW them at least 1 FULL TURN so that they can swivel freely under load.

Hi,

I am trying to figure out the rigging top end for the forestay. This is for
Catalina 320 Hull # 12

The forestay top end is eye 1/2' pin, however, I am not sure how to connect
it to the mast top (refer to the pic link below). I am guessing that I am
missing a an extension part that connect to the mast .

the mast is not mounted and I was able to connect the rest of the stays
(Upper, Backstay)

FYI: The catalina user manual was not very clear for the forestay
connection, the rest was easy.

Please check the picture for more details and let me know if you have any
information on the subject
