Two years ago when my transponders were less than reliable - I can live
without speed but not depth - I had Torresens in Muskegon MI replace the
whole system (not the autohelm yet) with a Tacktick wireless system
including the transponder. The boat needed to be hauled out for a day to
put in the new transponder and they didn't need to take the mast down. They
put the wireless box behind the panel just forward of the electrical panel
where I have a radio system. The wind apparatus at the top of the mast is
wireless and is solar powered and claims to last 200 hours after a sunny
day.
I am well impressed with the system so far.
