[C320-list] What type of wood was used for....?

the top of my forward engine cover (sitting beneath the steps) has a panel of wood which I guess is just a thin veneer sheet. The finish on this has been allowed to deteriorate by the previous owner and it has bubbled  up and blistered and the wood itself is splitting and marked.  I thought it simplest to just replace with a new veneer panel but wondered if anyone knows what type of wood this is - presumably designed to match the steps and the rst of the lighter inetrior woodwork?
