When you sail in an area with tidal currents (not Kansas...) the knot meter is useful in that the GPS speed is often not the boat speed thru the water. Aside from that, the knot meter is usually not helpful compared with GPS. Regards, Don Dixon Stargazer #605 Key West, FL
