[C320-list] Galley Sink Won't Drain

An alternative to running a snake down the drain tube (which will work) is to consider applying some air pressure to remove the blockage. A dinghy air pump works well for clearing a blocked engine water inlet (thru-hull) to force the blockage back out the way it came in to block the inlet hose. One could try that approach with a blocked drain by forcing pumped air down the sink drain by using a tightly wrapped rag around the air hose pushed up against the drain while someone pumps the air. Since your blockage is at the galley sink (and there may two drains), one drain must be blocked off with a rag held tightly to avoid having the air pressure escaping and defeating its intended path to exit the thru-hull and take the blockage with it. Using a plunger may also work as you may end up pulling the blockage material up into the drain hose and into the sink. I have found that cooking grease combined with sea critters at the thru-hull make the perfect combination to block a galley sink.

Subject: [C320-list] Galley Sink Won't Drain

My galley sink won't drain. I assumed there was a clog in the hose but when I disconnected it yesterday I surprised to find that the problem was with the seacock ( ..and yes, the seacock was open ) and the hose was fine. The manual basically says that there are no serviceable parts on the seacock. I opened and closed the valve several times because repeating the same behavior while expecting different results is....oh,never mind.

Anyway, I'm assuming that there is either some growth on the bottom that is obstructing the flow or the valve itself is whacked. If it's the latter, is there anything I can do other than replacing it? What does the little white pen in the middle of the valve do? Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks!
