I agree with Dennis that an immediate inspection is in order. But what
to inspect?? According to my quick research on Wikipedia, Aluminum is
less noble than steel, and the bolts that hold the whole thing together
are made out of aluminum. I suspect that the bolts are the weak link, so
the problem may not be evident if you only inspect the plate. A proper
inspection may require removal of some hardware to see what's going
on... 

Thoughts?
