[C320-list] Companionway Step Weld Failure

All is well. Following advice here took the stairs to a local steel
fabricator. After convincing himself that the frame was in fact stainless,
he took on the work. Days later was returned to me. 

 

The TIG process was used. Original welds where the top step SS straps are
attached to the aft cross bar were cleaned up and then re-welded. Deeming
the design flawed as it does not allow for sufficient weld area, fabricator
then welded additional strapping on the rear of the aft cross bar and up at
a 45 degree or so angle to the bottom of the SS straps. The result is
stronger than new. Total cost 84.93$ Canadian.
