[C320-list] need winch help, ASAP

Greg,

I spoke to Lewmar tech support and they were stumped by the presence of a flush, non-mushroom top to the gear spindle. They also had no idea how to remove it except possibly dismounting the entire winch and pushing the spindle out from the bottom. However, I don't think there is a hole in the correct position under the spindle and I'm not keen on drilling a new one. This has become a major headache. I am going to try once more today to disassemble. Oddly, I took apart one of the number 44 winches and it has the proper mushroom top spindle. It was grossly packed in hardened grease but once cleaned and lighly greased it works like new. I've ordered some new mushroom-top spindles to replace the old ones if I can get them out. I'll let you all know how it goes.

The dimple should take a screw driver head at an angle. Otherwise it is possible
that your model requires some specialized tool. There should be bolts/screws
holding it together. Once you remove these it will all come out. Record
carefully how all the pieces go together. I used this manual:

so there isn't much room to tap it; I'll give it a try. How do you grab the
spindle to pull it out once it is loose?
