[C320-list] Upper Chesapeake Marinas

Knapps narrows West to East is doable for shallow draft boats: 5" or less.
The last mark is a red day mark. One piece of local knowledge is to take the
red mark close abeam starboard, so close that you could reach overboard and
leave you card on the mark. That said, conditions are achang'n. Best to call
a marina in the narrows and ask for advice. Maybe avoid at low tide.

Coming out of Knapps into the Choptank, to the North, towards Harris Cr.,
there is a hazard of new oyster reefs that are 5" or less from the surface.
See the Active Captain hazard mark.

Kent Narrows channel is busy and managed. The marks are changed from the
charts, and may be changed from time to time; but, generally, if followed,
there is no problem. Know the tides at the Narrows as the flood tide flows
North and North-bound traffic is favored. When ebb tide, the South-bound
traffic is favored. Current can easily be 2 kts. Also, nav aids are
Red-Right whether North or South bound. Last time through, bridge tender was
very helpful.

Has anyone been there lately with a 320? Knapps Narrows has had severe
shoaling on the western approach, and the Army postponed plans to dredge
this Spring. Last I heard the postponement was indefinite. We avoided
Knapps during our spring cruise for this reason. There are similar
problems at Kent Island Narrows on the northern side of the narrows.
