Thank you one and all, for excellent help and suggestions.

My yard “don't use bearing pullers” but drive them out with a hammer having 
removed the prop shaft by lifting the boat and dropping the rudder. All in 
all getting on for close on $2000 of labor and parts etc. No thank you very 
much!

Sadly I am in England so tool loaner wont work due to shipping charges, but 
I found a very useful article online about making your own puller, which is 
here if anyone is interested

But it sounds as though it might be worth giving it one more go with GFO 
instead of the packing that is in it now. Once again (annoyingly) this is 
not available over here but I have found an eBay seller in the USA selling 
2ft lengths and have asked if he will ship it to me using USPS.

If not perhaps I can ask him to send it to someone on this list who would be 
prepared to put it in a small envelope and forward to me here in England. I’d 
happily reimburse you any expenses incurred.
