[C320-list] Anchor Chain - Gauge and Length

I ditto what Greg has said here. I have 130' of 1/4" high tensile chain
and 200' of nylon rode. The chain fits the gypsy on the Maxwell500
windlass. I understand that one needs to go to the Maxwell 1000 now to
   get a gypsy.

   Cheers

We have 120 ft chain and 130 rode. As most of our anchorages in the
Gulf and San Juan Islands require less than the 120. Sailed 49 days
this summer so far and never used more than 100ft. We have a 15kg
Rocna anchor that replaced the 10kg Lewmar that came with the boat.
This anchor and chain has been fantastic.
     Cheers,
     Greg

We have 20-25 ft, not sure of gauge. I envy other all-chain cruisers
whose anchor line drops vertically into the water while our rode
seemingly reaches to the horizon. On the other hand, I don't want to
handle/store any more chain than I need. We do mostly coastal
cruising so need to handle most conditions in a pinch.

$400. I did the work myself, and not being particularly handy, I
probably spent 20 hours or maybe more for the whole project. I'm
guessing someone who knows what they are doing could do it in less
than half that time, maybe much less time. I found that carefully
outlining the original mounts on the stringers with a Sharpie and
counting the exact number of threads before loosening the bolts that
attach the motor to the mounts made realigning the shaft much
easier. I raised the motor from the motor mounts with the screw jack
from my Honda (twice-one on each side) with a 1x6 piece of wood on
top to distribute the weight across the bottom of the motor. It
worked for me, but I'd likely pay someone to do it in the future. If
your estimate was under $1,000, I would definitely pay so

I received 1 estimate but it seemed high to me. Was wondering what I

I know this is not something I can do or would want to try, so I
would definitely hire a boat yard to do the work. I am scheduled for
a haul-out and thought to have them do the work while out of the
water. Replacing all 4 might be advisable.
