Dear all (I've deleted the long chain of emails to save folks from
scrolling all morning):

The starter that we think has failed was purchased from Go2Marine.com in
July 2006, so that replaced the OEM starter after 10 years. Our local
mechanic says that 10 years is a useful life for a starter motor, so we are
replacing the Go2Marine starter. We found the Hitachi after-market starter
(with several bad reviews, mainly concerning a cracked casing) for
$65-$70. In looking for OEM parts, we found a “new” starter from
scottmarinepower.com for $481.75 and a “remanufactured” starter for
$185.69 from the same seller. We then went back to Go2Marine and found the
same unit that is now on the boat for $112, manufactured by API Marine as
Part No. 76602, with a 1 yr warranty. That's what I've ordered. I’m
copying their product description below. I’m also thinking I’ll get one of
the Hitachi knock-offs as a back-up, after checking the casing.
