[C320-list] roller furling

Diane,

It is also possible that the foil has slipped down inside the drum a short distance and is rubbing on the swaged part of the turnbuckle inside. That can happen if the set screws aren't properly in place.

It is easier to tell whether the problem is in the upper bearing or the lower unit with the sail off and turning the lower unit slowly by hand and listening.

It should turn freely with no difficult spots.

Diane - On Hull #808, there was no way to either flush or lube the
lower bearings which probably is where your problem is. Schaefer
several years ago recognized the problem and was selling replacement
lower units at cost (around $100 from my memory) that had a flushing
port. You might want to follow-up with them for a relatively easier
solution. I had the same problem - it got harder and harder to furl
until the thing eventually stopped spinning at all. The replacement
lower unit worked fantastic for many years (I sold the boat last fall)
but I flushed it after almost every sail.

Currently, being a single gal owning a sailboat has it's drawbacks, but

am trying to learn more about maintenance. The manual doesn't give any
   ideas.
   Can anyone help me?
