[C320-list] Battery charging question about Battery switch

I think I know the answer but it just occurred to me and I may be having a senior moment??.  This question is mainly for when connected to shore power.
Can I assume that the battery charger (assume from factory configuration) does not matter which position (both or none) to charge the batteries?
If you have the switch set to none does it NOT charge the batteries or does it?  While I'm at it does it matter while running the engine.  I typically run the engine in "both" and taking care not to change it while motoring.  Especially changing it to "none" while motoring.
I just have not read up enough on it and I'm not near the boat to trace anything out.
