[C320-list] Bilge Pump Makers? Comments? Experiences?

I have a Rule pump. Don't know the capacity. I replaced the pump 13 years ago when we bought it, and again this year as it didn't come through Winter well. Not bad for a period over which we ran nearly 2000 hours.
Don’t think I saw Graeme's message on location; but, this I can tell you. The early hulls (shallow bilge) had the pump in the bilge. Later models (deep bilge) installed the pump outside the bilge (maybe not all,) where I don't know. If installed outside of the bilge, there has to be a hose to it and the pump has to allocate energy to pull the water to it. The height of the pump above the bilge is added to the height of the output thru-hull to get the total vertical rise or head. The greater the head, the slower will be the flow.

Subject: [C320-list] Bilge Pump Makers? Comments? Experiences?
I am getting closer to deciding on how to do our second bilge pump.
The current bilge pump is a Jabsco located in the port settee under the chart table. I had to replace it right after we bought the boat. May switch this to be backup pump if new one is quieter. Still deciding.
I see the major brands as (in no particular order) Jabsco, Rule, Atwood, Shurflo.
Any "subjective" comments on any brands?
Also while I'm at it, Why did you go with submersible in the bilge or not in the bilge? I saw Graeme's reasons and I can think of some others pro and con. Any more thoughts on that part out there?
Thanks,
