Thanks, Danny, for mentioning the Xantrex remote panel. I, too, have one and find it an invaluable tool. There are even some functions you can do from the remote panel that can't be done from the face of the charger. Definitely get the remote panel.
Your comments on installation are definitely helpful, just not for Dave. Obviously, your hull is newer than Dave's and mine as on our older hulls, the charger is not in the cockpit locker but in the stbd locker in the v-berth. Neither location is particularly convenient to access the charger, thus the value of the remote panel. I wonder why Catalina decided to move it to the cockpit locker? That makes for longer cable runs with no benefit I can see. With the charger in the v-berth locker, the cables to the batteries can be managed without messengers, and are only a few feet long.

I also have a Xantrex 40A. I recommend purchasing the Auxiliary interface panel. This way you can access the charger from the nav station remotely. Otherwise, you have to stick your head in the Port locker to get status information from your charger. The wiring takes about one hour. You need to fish A flat silver satin RJ 45 type wire from the bulkhead in the port locker through your cabinets to an area next to the nav station where you use a holesaw to drill a approximately 1 inch hole to mount the auxiliary panel. It is quite easy to see this panel from all parts of the boat to determine if your charger is operating properly and as expected.
