Hello Jeff.  I have replaced these pumps and even used the in line filter
to keep trash out of it once.  The diafram inside the removable head
section delaminated and had to be replaced.  But in this instance I could
hear the pump was still trying to work.  One of the other failures happened
when I was not using the in line filter and Avery small particle stuck in
the diafram and prevented it from operating properly.  The best thing to do
is remove the small end of the pump and check the condition of the diafram
valves.  Hope this information helps.
