The previous owner of my boat installed a supplementary switch panel when he added radar and a few other items so these could easily be switched on and off and each circuit has it’s own fuse.
There was a spare switch so i used that to power the USB charging unit.
Fusing is essential as any unfused positive wire from the battery is a potential for a short circuit (and thus fire) if it accidentally touches any grounded point or vice versa.
