In the same way that not all device manufacturers adhere to the same
standards for USB.  Likewise, not all USB charging ports are created
equal.  Maine Sail wrote an article a while back on this topic and points
out correctly that most of the 'marine' USB ports out there are not very
fast chargers.   His recco at the time of writing was to install a 12V port
(aka cigarette lighter port) and then buy a Scoshce 12V USB adapter to plug
into said 12V port.   After poking around on line I found this to be sound
advice, and purchased the reccomended charger.  If you are looking to
minimize charging time, I highly reccomend this approach.   Very few USB
chargers will deliver this kind of performance and value.   As an added
bonus you will have additional 12V outlets for any other toys you might
need to charge via a cigarette lighter adapter.
