I dont know of any bypass. However, my hot water heater expresses water from the pressure relief valve due to expansion from heating whenever I turn on my water heater. It is several ounces of water each time, so I use a small water bottle on the end of the pressure relief valve hose to catch that water. I just empty the bottle periodically to keep this water out of the bilge.

Something to consider or investigate as possibly the hot water leak that you are experiencing.
