[C320-list] ENGINE SPACE VENTING

There is always a reason why an extra expense is designed into a build plan. Suggest you might want to contact Catalina and speak with a technician to clarify the venting design rationale.

I concur that blower venting after a longer engine run has helped cool down the engine compartment and serves to reduce engine or fuel odors, especially in the event of a fuel spill when replacing a filter, even with a heavy spray of 409 cleaner to clean up the residue.

While my hoses are a tatter at the moment, I plan to one day replace them, as I think that an engine compartment venting after a run on motor reduces oder and heat in the aft cabin. Especially useful before a hot summer night.

John I am also interested in what you find.

I am going to leave the blower in place and just get rid of the vent hoses. Mine are dirty, have mild mould on them and I think just in the way serving no real functionality.

I have been conducting some research and cannot find a definitive answer on MECHANICAL VENTILATION NOT REQUIRED. I have removed the fuel tank on my boat for testing and based on recent discussion am considering not replacing the air vent hoses to the engine compartment. What affect will this have on future surveys? I would like to eliminate the hoses and fan but don’t want to find out later that it won’t pass a survey.
