Just as an aside and a comment to get you all talking. I am sure there are as many opinions as there are 320s. I had a two cyl Volvo in my Santana 3030. I removed it and rebuilt it from the bottom up. Reground crank, new rods & pistons, Valve job, block and heads resurfaced, new injectors, etc, etc, etc. Not my first time to rebuild an engine. After blowing a head gasket at Santa Cruz Island after two years I replaced it with a Yanmar 3gm. Rebuild the Perkins from the Bottom up or replace it with a yanmar.

I’m sure it would’ve been less expensive to rebuild the Perkins, I just didn’t want to continue replacing parts. Turns out the Volvo uses the same Perkins block so I’m hoping for an easy swap for the mechanic and another 25 years of cruising the Puget Sound.

When I finally did this I found that my Perkins Perama M30 had seized something internally and was backfiring on one of the cylinders every revolution. A diesel knowledgeable friend took a look and found that one of the con-rods had bent and we need a new one (and gaskets etc.)
