Warren,

I made that upgrade at least 15 years ago, so I don’t remember all the details. The nuts are easily accessible in the anchor locker and the bolts came off without a fight. There were bolt holes in the new roller, but I don’t know if they lined up with the previous holes. Since the old holes are covered by the new roller, I would have just filled the old holes with caulk and drilled new holes to match the new bolt hole patterns. I either used the old backing plates or made new ones. Again, very easy to access and fit either way.

Ted, it was difficult to pry off the old roller as I too believe it was bedded with 5200. I just dug out as much material as I could and then wedged a pry bar between the bottom of the roller and top of the deck. Each time the roller lifted a bit I would cut more caulk with a thin chisel. With patience, the gel coat survived. Good luck.
