[C320-list] Seacock problem-need advice

The boat is on land so access is not an issue. I have a flush-mounted through hull beneath the seacock. The flush mount has a key way. Is a special key needed to remove disassemble to seacock?  


To remove the seacock (inside the boat) does it just screw off, or do you need to remove the four screws first? Does the through-hull screw tightly to the seacock and that is what holds it together? I don't have any other through bolts. 


If I need to replace the whole seacock/through-hull and the through hull is flush mounted, do you know what current model made by Forespar will fit? Thanks.

I've had them all apart before.  You just can't do anything to them in the water really, so if you're on land you're in luck.

So, there are 4 machine screws on the top which holds 3 sections together (top to bottom):
1. The tailpiece where the hose connect
-- rubber gasket
3. The valve section 
-- rubber gasket
5. Thru hull section.

The thru hull section has a large threaded ring around the base that clamps the thru hull to the hull.
On the outside, there may be 3 or 4 screws around the outside of the flange that need to be removed if you're going to replace the whole unit.  You'll probably want to just do that if you have to get as far as taking the existing one out so that you can replace the base block.

If you're out of the water you can do the job pretty quickly.  Be sure to use something like 4200 (or whatever Forespar recommends) around the ring when you put the new thru hull back in.

If I were going to replace my raw water intake thru hull,  I would certainly investigate stepping up one whole size of valve.  The next size up has a substantially stronger handle, and slightly larger intake hose.  The stock smaller valves don't have very strong handles.  I've broken one before and they can cause a big leak.

Forespar website and their tech support department is pretty good and helpful.

I found a deteriorating wooden backer block on the raw water intake seacock on my 1995 vintage 320, hull 174. The backer block is damp and has been wet for awhile. It is made by Forespar. Does anyone have a schematic for how they are put together? What is the best procedure for removing, examing, repairing, replacing the seacock? Any ideas?
