[C320-list] Using salt water for the head

Everyone,
I was told when I first bought my boat from the previous owner that he never used salt water to flush the head, always kept the valves closed because thats what causes the head to have a bad smell. So we’ve always just used the shower head from the sink to flush the toilet using fresh water. Is this true or urban legend?

If true, has anyone plumbed fresh water from the tanks to the head?
