Just following up on Progressive Insurance.
THE CHECK IS HERE.

Yep, they showed up the day the boat was pulled reviewed the damage in great detail with me and the yard, recommended a course of action, sent me an estimate and mailed the check!.

The Yard initially said they wanted to remove the keel to inspect the hull for additional damage BUT as Progressive’s agent pointed out they is no sign of any hull damage inside or out. Removing the keel is expensive and time consuming as ‘they’ say that you need to step the mast to avoid instability on the stands.

Personally as an engineer I think I could stake out the cleats to the ground using ‘circus quality’ tent stakes OR support the mast with the mast stepping crane while the work is being done. OR even stabilize the mast with ground length cables from the spreaders, the way we support antenna towers.

BUT the keel removal is a separate task from the keel repair. So I’ve authorized the ‘keel in place’ solution with the understanding that IF any damage is discovered we’ll review and the assurance from Progressive that they’’ll cover any additional work and ANY later time.

Having reviewed everything myself this is a much better solution for cost and to get me sailing again!
