Hi Diane,I think you have to go with hard.  Soft would couple less noise and vibration to the stringers but also allow the engine to move around more.  Our cutlass bearings are very thin and if the engine moves around much the bearings wear out very quickly.At least that has been my experience/observation.Best,BruceBruce Hey man(949) 289 8400
