[C320-list] Perkins Engine - Anti Siphon Valve

Hi All—

I recently purchased Hull #131, which has a Perkins motor. I’ve just gotten a chance to study the motor, and I’m concerned about the anti-siphon valve on the saltwater side of the heat exchanger. I’m concerned because it’s mounted right above the alternator, and I think it shorted out the old alternator before I bought the boat.

Here’s my question: Has anyone else run into this problem, and how did you resolve it? I assume it’s limited to the early hull numbers with Perkins motors.

As a temporary measure, I’m going to fabricate a plastic shield to protect the alternator, but I’d like to find a replacement for the anti-siphon valve to which I can attach a tube to route any salt water to the bilge, but I’m not sure where to start looking. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks for your help.
