[C320-list] Running engine with seacock off?

For what its worth,

Shortly after getting our boat I went to the local FedEx store and laminated a luggage tag that says “Seacock Close!”. It hangs from the engine stop T- handle directly over the engine's key slot. It would literally be impossible for me to insert the key without moving the tag out of the way so that’s my reminder. When I take the key out of the chart table and insert it at the helm, I remove the tag, go below and open the seacock, then place the tag back in the chart table in place of the key. - Vise versa for shutdown.

I store our Lifesling in the Lazarette when we’re not onboard, (rain, mold, UV, theft, etc.) and after a couple of really bad safety moves by getting underway and not placing it on the stern rail, I made a second tag to hang from the T-handle that reminds me to put the lifesling out.

Hope this helps,

Fortunately the winds were favorable for a reach I put my wife on the helm and determine something had blocked the seacock to the point when I opened it with the strainer removed it only gave a trickle of water. I scavenged my lockers trying to figure out a way to un block the offending lack of water. First I try my shop vacuum blowing and suctioning . Still just a trickle. Finally I found a large electrical tie and forced it through the opening twisted it around and dislodged the blockage. I reinstalled the strainer and all is well. after 20 years with the boat it’s the first time this has happened. We would have been upset too say the least if we had caused damage to our only 80 hours old Volvo penta.
