If moisture finds it's way into your tank this can happen. It only takes
a very small amount of water in the tank to start having this issue as
temperatures cool. Before you replace the regulator try using a different
propane tank that you know has dry fuel (like from your BBQ grill tank or
use A 1 lb Coleman grill bottle with an adapter). If the problem goes
away then your fix is as simple as using up the old bottle as rapidly as
possible and then making sure the filling station purges the tank properly.
(home bbq is a good choice since it will have a larger regulator that can
handle higher flows and will be less prone to freeze up when temps are in
the 40-50s °F).
If you are curious as to how water gets in a propane tank, google it...it's
more common than you might think.
