[C320-list] Someone replaced my line?

Graeme,

Not to argue, But that's really not the specific case here, right? :)

Hypothetically, it could just as easily be that the lines were on the boat from the when it left the factory. So, yes, the circumstances matter a bit, but how you handle it matters so much more. If you're mean, hardnosed or make them suffer a loss, you've lost a vendor or maybe other vendors as well. If I made a mistake like that and someone took advantage of my mistake and made me eat a loss, you can bet your behind your name would get around the and you'll be paying a PITA surcharge for services of others in the future whether you're aware of it or not. These guys all talk to each other. Guaranteed. Workloads are referred around all the time.

The rigger might even just say sorry, it was my mistake, you can keep them on me. But probably NOT if you try to take advantage of him. There's always some margin in the pricing and there's usually room for everyone to come out ahead. Mistakes happen, there's an honest way to handle mistakes. We all make them. Handle it the way you'd like to be treated if the roles were reversed is all I'm saying here.

To address your specific hypothetical, if someone mistakenly replaced all four tires on my car with better tires than I would have bought *and* I like them, I'd work out a deal. If I didn't like them, I'd explain why and see what we can do about it.

-Jeff

Really Chris? Suppose you’d replaced all your lines just a year ago, you'd be happy to give them the full cost of the new line?
Or they have put in expensive dyneema whereas you would chosse something more economical?

It has to be pro-rata surely? I’d pay for the wear and tear on my old line. The “use” that I have had from it, effectively.

If someone replaced all four tires on your car and did so with $250 tires rather than the $150 tire you normally have and you had just put 4 new tires on six months ago, would you still do that?

I’m not ‘having a go at you’, I’m just pointing out that it really does depend upon the circumstances
