[C320-list] Shore Power

Thanks everybody for responses. Not sure if i will leave the boat plugged in all time but at least i am not paranoid about plugging in when i am around the boat.

I grew up sailing on a 28 ft steel hull boat called Yellowbird. It was a North Sea design and my mother liked it because you could not put a hole in steel hull, not that we did not try over the years.
The boat did not have much in the way of electrical gear, we did not even have the option of plugging into shore power. Kia Ora is my first foray back into big boat sailing in 30 years, so much to learn in this new world.

Thanks again

Ken

Its been 5 years now since I installed a 180W solar panel on Luffin Life. The only time I’ve plugged into shore power was to confirm that the shore charger was still working OK. The fridge runs continuously and the solar panel keeps up with the load. I’m thinking of installing a larger panel, cause after about 3 cloudy days the batteries will start loosing charge. Its a good investment and good for the environment! The cost of these panels has dropped substantially. Most of them are made in China regrettably!!
