Here's a way to preserve the finish on the boards:Fasten a piece of Sunbrella fabric to the trailing edge of the companionway slide (I used snap fasteners) so it hangs over the boards like a curtain. Added benefit, while motoring we slide the hatch aft and drop the curtain. Helps with engine noise. Plus it's a quick-to-deploy mosquito curtain.- Joe Jablonowski  Assignment C320 #103

Mine were quite weathered so not much finish left. I lightly sanded them and then put on a first coat of Watco oil with a light teak stain to enhance the grain, and then the natural (no stain) for a second coat. I like oil as there is no hard finish and it is usually easy to recoat. I haven’t yet though and it’s been 5-6 years since I did this.

I have a 1994 with hull number 121. Dave Hupe has given me a few recommendations. I am wondering if anyone knows the exact stain/color/material? I have my Materials and Equipment Log sheet for the boat but it does not list hatchboards or ladder steps. It lists Sherman Williams sealer and finish, Satin #9921 for the cabin sole. It lists Eco, Water Base, Satin, for the interior varnish.
