[C320-list] Harken Traveler Sticking

Clay,

My traveller was very difficult to operate under a heavy load. The spinlock cam cleat would not lift up to release the line. We simply lubricated the mechanisms and we have had no troubles since then. There may be an adjustment to loosen the spring tension if you have the same type of cam cleat. I think I used McLube, the same stuff I use on my sail lugs, but I may have simply used WD-40 or some other spray lubricant. We also had to re-bed the traveler because of leaks but I do not recall doing any servicing at that time.

Good luck!

I replaced the car and all blocks on my Garhauer traveller last year and it made a world of difference in how easy it is to adjust from the cockpit under load. My understanding is that the Garhauer traveller on the early boats had some problems and yours may have been replaced.

To get it to slide any direction requires walking around the dodger, up to the traveler itself and pulling on the line/pullies from in front of the dodger then going back to the cockpit to lock it into the cam cleat. Wondering if this might be an issue only on my boat with my line or perhaps the traveler and pullies need lubrication of some kind? Anybody have any insight on this subject? How do yours work?
