With the Westerbeke (Hull 322) is not a big problem because the engine is "self-bleeding" so a little air is no real problem.

On my hull #350, someone has already installed a shutoff valve immediately upstream of the Racor. I assume it is one of the previous owners.
I must say that I can't imagine NOT having it. If you have space to fit one, I can say that it is very convenient and makes bleeding the line a little easier since you know that no air has gone upstream in the fuel line.
