I also replaced my boat socket and plug years ago with a SmartPlug. Why, you ask? While the shoreside plug remains Marinco and Hubbell compatible, the boat end has the SmartPlug with larger contacts, blue light and locking cap. We are fortunate that our 320s have the internal transom circuit breaker! It ALWAYS is turned “ON” last and turned “OFF” first at disconnect.

When I bought my SmartPlug, I only bought the 25’ cord since I still have my 50’ Marinco for transient docks.

Ask any marine supply outlet and they can show you boxes full of burned out plugs from customers who have failed to follow procedure connecting and disconnecting shorepower. Follow procedure and “lock” you Marinco of Hubbell plug with that little right twist and be SAFE!

I replaced mine with the SmartPlug after seeing serious ‘burn marks’ with the old Marinco plug. I like the prongs with more surface area. Just know that you’ll always have to carry your shore power cord with you if you’re going places where you need to plug in. With our solar panels, we only plug in at our dock because we run the dehumidifier 24/7. Solar takes care of refrigeration and everything else
