[C320-list] Pedestal cleanup (removal)?

Has anybody removed the pedestal? Mine has a slight leak someplace and the PO did some bad looking caulk job. Also the base is pitting and the paint is flaking off. I would like to remove the whole thing and clean it all up but that seems a major task? What about any adjustments I would mess up?
