[C320-list] replacing lifeline with solid tubing

I guess you mean some sort of rail? My only comment would be that such a design (and the extra leverage created by raising it higher) would put considerable extra strain on the base of the stanchions -  a well known spot for leaks through the deck to develop. I have rigged jack-stays along the deck between pullpit and pushpin and use clip-on safety line whenever working on deck in heavy weather, as wellas - of course - only ever going along upwind side of deck so if I fall I fall into and not out of the boat - hopefully!
