[C320-list] Windlass advice

Jack, I’m attaching a few photos which shows that you don’t need to remove the shelf to access the windlass. But I do recommend that you remove it from the boat before servicing it. I did this a few years ago and the only hard part was removing the drum above deck. Then remove the four fixing bolts.  I took it to a local marine engineer who changed the oil and also serviced the motor, cleaned and painted it up too.

I have a welded-on gypsy which was fitted to the end of the drum by a previous owner, and I use it regularly with up to 30m of 8mm chain (5/16”), with which it has no problem. I always thought that the 1/4” chain provided on some 320s is a little under spec for the tonnage.
