My recollection is that I used a large screwdriver with a square shank and then applied extra torque via a wrench on the shank. Also used as much downward force as I could to keep the head from stripping.

Just make sure you have a nice new screwdriver bit that fits the screw head perfectly and put all your weight down onto the screwdriver before pulling the trigger. Start with the driver's chock not on "full power" or you chance breaking off the screw head. Good luck! Neil Kornblatt #963 Harmony

Before you go there though, take the cable off the throttle shaft at the front of the engine first and see if it is the cable or the shaft that is the problem. On # 867, the water pump on the engine splashed water on the mechanism that the cable operates at the front of the engine and it was rusting up. It took a fair amount of penetrating oil and rotating the shaft back and forth with a wrench to free it. Then a liberal application of marine lubricant helped keep from rusting again. After this the cable moved freely.

I was going to first try to pull the inside cable out clean it blow it out, then oil it, then reinsert but getting to the clamp inside the top of the pedestal does not look easy. Then I was looking to see about replacing it but how do you reach all the way down in there to get that pedestal section unmounted?
