Stephen, Michael, thank you both for your input.

The display logic works fine. I can put the unit into Auto mode and click +10 and it shows it adjusting the heading correctly. I measured input to the display, and it measures correctly at the battery voltage. I measured the output voltage at the display to the motor itself. In reading on the RayMarine support site, it notes that the output to the motor should nominally be 12V but it uses a Pulse Width Modulated signal, so that typical voltmeters which can't read the signal at that pulse frequency should read about 5-6 V (a nominal average of 12V on/off).

I get about 1.25V in one direction and less than 1V turning in the other.

Contacting Dan is a good idea. I just ordered and installed a new LCD display from Dan a couple of months ago, so the display looks crisp and new. I've seen the units on EBay, and for me if I'm going to invest 500 or so on a new display, I'll probably just invest in a new EV-100 unit (but I also understand decisions in the other direction). The existing unit certainly doesn't owe me anything after 24 years. The main reason I'm looking for a display first is less about frugality (although I'd be untruthful if I said there wasn't an element of that :)) and more about dreading the new SeaTalk cable runs and possible wheel pilot sizing reqts (I've noted some had to drop their engine pod, etc.)
Thanks again for all input,
Larry
