On my 1995 #209 I replaced the original Perko 0170 Mast Steaming & Deck light with the same but new Perko 0170 light.

I placed my 16' aluminum ladder on the cabin top leaning aft to place the upper ladder rung against the mast & ladder side rails on the lower spreader.
Used ratchet strap at bottom of ladder rung to about bottom of mast to stop ladder sliding out.
Used ratchet strap at top of ladder rung to mast at about spreader to secure top of ladder to mast.

Used multi-meter to check for 12 volt power to old Perko light prior to remove & install new Perko.

Dave Wellersten,
I have hull number #138, and 1994, so my hull is very close to yours.

This is the dual steaming/deck light on mine, and mine is orig:

This is the bulb you will need to replace the deck light:
https://www.catalinadirect.com/shop-by-boat/catalina-38/electrical/replacement-bulbs/led-upgrade-navigation-aqua-signal-steaming-deck-light-combo/4772/
Note: I have replaced this bulb on this model of fixture, with this model
of bulb, in 2021, so I know this works. Also note that it is a Bayonet
style bulb. This particular bulb is not very bright, but I prefer it for
minimal bug attraction. In open water, it's more than bright enough, and
minimizes vision loss to white light.

Hope this helps.
