[C320-list] battery charger

Jeff,
Is the following thinking sound at all? 1) If the wire from the charger to battery #2 had an open circuit or high resistance, couldn't that explain his symptoms. Wouldn't BOTH route the #1 charger to battery wire into both batteries via the battery switch in that case. 2) as you say, if the #2 output of the charger is caput, it would have the same effect as an open circuit wire. He could try swapping wires at the charger or at the battery to see if the symptom moved to the other battery. I'm probably overlooking something.

Hi,
The shore power charger is wired directly to each battery, so the battery
switch has no effect on shore power charging.
I suspect that your shore power charger has died or is in the last throws.
BTW, if the battery voltage is significantly low enough, the shore power
charger won't attempt to charge it. A shorted cell will usually trigger
this condition.
I lost a battery with a shorted cell my first season.
See this flowchart on the C320 site for diagnosing your charger. (do you
have a "Charles" charger or a "ProMariner"?)

Jim,
Do you think it has always been this way? If so it sounds like the charger
is connected directly to battery one.

When on shore power with the master switch on battery 2, battery 2 will not
charge. I noticed this when the lights got dim and the battery 2 gauge was
in
the red zone (confirmed with a volt meter). There would be an occasional
bright flicker like the charger was trying go "turn on". When the master
switch
is moved to Both battery 2 charges just fine (so no emergency since I can
charge both). Battery 1 charged fine and 2 charges just fine with the
alternator.
Checked fuses, cleaned terminals and connections, and checked water level.
Boat is only in its second season so the batteries are new. Any ideas? Jim
