We installed this. It comes with  backing plates. It took two of us about two hours to install and I am very happy with it. I don't know how you could fix it to be easily removed but it isn't in our way. I plan to take some photos and post. I will send you a direct copy. The top rod on my boat was exactly 6' but it is easy to cut if needed.
