[C320-list] Stanchion Issue-Ideas?

The Stanchion on my last boat did the same thing, separating at the weld. A
mobile welder came to the boat and we put wood under the Stanchion after we
lifted it. While welding the wood got hot and smoked a bit on top but worked
fine. The only problem was the new weld rusted a bit, maybe he didn't use
the right material for the weld.

I believe you are way off base. Try stainless not chrome and any good TIG
welder should be able to do the job. You need to remove it to keep the
mobile welder cost down or at least lift it from the boat so you don't burn
the boat down.
