[C320-list] Stainless Steel Shaft

Chris Holt and I purchased our 55"x1" single taper SS shafts from
DeepBlueYachtSupply.com

Note that if you replace your prop shaft, I strongly suggest you consider
purchasing a new split shaft coupler (possibly from PYI-Inc) to go with it.
Otherwise, the shaft won't necessarily be "faced" to fit your original
coupler which may be slightly larger or smaller than any 1" shaft delivered,
nor will it have the set screw holes pre-drilled. Normally a machine shop
needs both the flange and the shaft in order to get an exact fit.

Catalina Direct has a very long lead time (they told me 6-8wks minimum!)
because they don't actually stock them, even though they were happy to take
my order online immediately.

With a split flange coupler, you don't need a keyway and it's much easier to
remove and adjust the flange. In any event, give that some thought.

With deep blue, we had a choice of Aqualoy 19 or 22. They said if you have
a boat that sits idle in warm water year round with infrequent use, the
Aqualoy 22 was slightly better at resisting rust under long periods of idle
time in those circumstances.

The Aqualoy 19 is perfectly fine for all other situations and $60 less.

With the Gori prop, I had to hacksaw off 1/8" of the little unthreaded nub
at the prop end of the shaft, but that took me 5 minutes by hand. Chris
just filed his down in about the same time.

All in all, I wish I had gone for the split couple since it makes servicing
the stuffing box or shaft seal much easier since the flange can be removed
much more easily.

Since you will *HAVE* to remove the cutlass bearing before hand, I suggest
you order one of those also.

OK. I know this has been discussed before but now that I am ready to do
this, I was looking for a little advise.

I would like to change my bronze shaft to Stainless. In searching the list,
I did not see where anyone had bought theirs thru Catalina Direct. They
advertise a 55 inch shaft for the 320. Has anyone purchased this from them
or did you get yours somewhere else? The price is reasonable, compared with
other quotes I have received.

As for the shaft length, I understand that it is a good idea to measure your
own since the actual lengths may vary. Is this true? Or is 55 inches the
standard?
