Cy - Are you talking about the hose coming off of the temperature-pressure
relief valve? - Allan Field

Subject: [C320-list] Water Heater

I was wondering if I could get some help from this wonderful list about my
water heater. The short rubber hose on the outet has failed twice this
summer, causing water to fill the drawers in the galley cabinets (tired of
drying them out), and effectively shutting down my water system. I replaced
the hose with auto rated radiator hose from Ace hardware. The hose
literally falls apart, the outer shell peels off. I suspect the problem is
that the water is too hot, although I would think the hose could handle it.
It is scalding hot coming out of the faucet.

I've tried:
1) "Exercising" the Temperature and Pressure valve several times as was
recommended once before on this list. Should I consider replacing it?

2) Checking the red button on the heating element. It's in an "in"
position, seems to me to be stuck, doesn't go in or out. Should I replace
the heating element?

3) Am I using the wrong hose? Should I go to a marine rated hot water hose
from West Marine?

4) Why the hose in the first place? Can I connect the Whale hoses directly
to the outlet? or a brass fitting of some sort?

I'm going to call Seaward later today (you're still sleeping in California)
and see if they have any suggestions.

Any help on this would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Cy
