Barry et al:

I SWEAR that in reading the manual three times I never saw the bit about 
pushing in on the burner control and HOLDING IT IN while attempting to 
light the burner. On again reviewing the manual with this advice in mind 
I did find it.. following your direction I was able to hear the hiss of 
pressurized whatever and to light the burner with the igniter.

Problem solved. For this relief much thanks!
