The first owner of Bear installed a radar mounted on a transom pole. The
bottom connection is a pin fitting attached to the starboard swim seat.
The secondary connection is via a spacer block to the stern rail. Based
on the condition of one of the rail stanchions this was not an optimum
attachment method as it appears to have resulted in some play in the
pole and stress on the stanchion base. He made a correction by adding an
additional brace of a 1" SS pipe section with one end attaching to the
stern rail near the rail pole connection, and then angling back and down
to a second pin fitting on the same swim seat but further back to the stern.

This arrangement gets the dome out of the way and eliminates contact
between the dome and sails. There is an easy wire run through the
transom with interior access through the starboard stern locker. This
arrangement also appears steady. It does cost you the use of that swim seat.

It has resulted in one less thing to worry about when doing the fall
mast-off and haulout as it can be left in place for this activity.
